MONTANA HISTORY ADVENTURE
The Hole-in-the-Wall is offering this Montana History Adventure for Jr. High & High School Social Studies students, teachers and chaperones. This adventure is centered around a 13 mile canoe float on the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument, from Judith Landing to Stafford Ferry. We cover such subjects as Lewis & Clark, fur trade, steamboats, homesteading, Plains Indians,
artists and local river geology as well as many other subjects of interest. This adventure will bring to life some of the topics covered in your Social Studies curriculum.
We will provide your school with a detailed lesson plan prior to the adventure for class room planning and preparation. Accommodations for special needs students can be arranged.
We cover canoe safety & skills as part of each adventure & all passengers are required to wear life jackets at all time when on the river. We will provide life jackets, paddles & drinking water. Our float trips are done with 22 ft. Clipper Mariner canoes that can handle up to eight passengers each and a 20 ft. catamaran that can handle up to ten passengers. This allows us to float groups up to 25 in the three canoes. We can handle larger groups, but it would require some people to ride in smaller two-three person canoes.
Depending on your preference, you can choose the one or two day Montana History Adventure. We encourage you to team up with another school to get a better rate and it would also add to the learning experience.
The Hole-in-the-Wall is licensed & insured to do floats on Montana’s Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument . This adventure can be scheduled from mid-April thru October, depending on our Central-Montana weather. We also offer a similar float with a science & geology emphasis.
Travel Information
Each school is responsible for transportation of its students, teachers & chaperons. We will meet in Winifred, located 38 miles from Lewistown. From Winifred we will travel North 26 miles to the Judith Landing. You will then have to be picked up at the Stafford Ferry located 14 miles East of Winifred. Most of the travel from Winifred is on improved gravel roads. If your class travels in private vehicles instead of a bus we can arrange to have your vehicles shuttled to Stafford Ferry. There are a variety of ways we can do this, depending on whether you are doing the one or two day adventure. We can work out the details as we make plans for your adventure.
Cost:
The cost of the one day adventure is shown below. We recommend that you bring a sack lunch for the first meal and then plan to stop at the Winifred Cafe for supper. The cafe can be ready to serve your group quickly and they serve a great hamburger, at a great price.

10 - 18 = $30 per person.

We will work out the meals when we plan your trip.
