In the Footsteps of Lewis & Clark

The Hole-in-the-Wall is offering a power boat adventure that will follow Lewis & Clark's travel on the Missouri River in Montana. We will be starting this Bicentennial event at the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers, and ends, with the Celebration of Captain Lewis meeting the Shoshone. We will slowly motor up river following the footsteps of the Corps of Discovery, as they work their way up the Missouri River. We will also visit some of the towns and other points of interest as we follow this historical event.

All you need to bring is a sleeping bag and your personal gear. We will provide everything else, including setting up tents & cooking the meals.

We have this adventure set up in five, ten day legs. Each ten day leg is $1000 per person. You can sign up for one or more legs depending on you schedule & preference. This adventure is limited to six guest per leg, so sign up early.

The first leg starts on April 25, 2006 at the confluence of the Missouri & Yellowstone Rivers and ends on, May 4, 2006 at Wolf Point. Clark refereed to this stretch of the river as “The Deserts of America”. We will visit nine Lewis & Clark Camp sites & many other sites of historical interest on this leg.

The second leg starts on May 5, 2006 at Wolf Point and ends on May 14, 2006 at The Pines Recreation Area of Fort Peck Reservoir. We will visit nine Lewis & Clark Camp sites & many other sites of historical interest on this leg.

The third leg starts May 15, 2006 at The Pines Recreation Area of Fort Peck Reservoir and ends on May 24, 2006 at the James Kipp Recreation Area. We will visit 14 Lewis & Clark Camp sites & many other sites of historical interest on this leg.

From May 25 - June 11, 2006 we will be doing adventures on the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) regulations permit down river traffic only from the weekend before Memorial Day to the weekend after Labor day, on the monument. During this time our trips will be down river only. If you are interested in an adventure during this time, please check out one of the other adventures on this web-site.

The fourth leg starts June 12, 2006, in Fort Benton and ends June 21, 2006 in Great Falls. This leg includes 8 Lewis & Clark campsites, a visit to a few of the “Great Falls”, a tour of the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center & the C. M. Russell Art Museum in the city of Great Falls.

From June 22 to August 3, 2006 we will again have to leave the Corps of Discovery to do adventures on the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. During this time period the Corps of Discovery completes its portage around the “Great Falls” of the Missouri and on July 15, they again start to move up the Missouri River. At this time we do not plan to do the streth of river from Great Falls to Helena. If you are interested in doing a trip during this time frame, please contact us.

Our fifth and final leg starts August 4, 2006 in Helena and ends August 13,2006 at the site of the meeting of Captain Lewis and the Shoshone. As there is no way to determine river flow at this time, we will motor up the Missouri River as far as we can and then we will transfer over to vehicles to finish the adventure.

Remember you can sign up for one or more legs of this adventure and it is limited to six guest per leg, so sign up early.
